I come from a place where ....

I’m not a stranger to the judgments of others. I know what people think of me, for what I am and for who I’m with. As a metahuman, I’ve been looked down upon by the world, and even though I, like many others, have tried to hide who I am, not out of shame, but from fear of what people might do, I am not the greatest at hiding. You see, I hear what others are thinking. I don’t have to try. In fact, I am still not sure how to make it stop. I can also communicate with others this way, and it seems persuade people to do what I want?

Only I don’t want to control anyone. Thoughts are intimate things. I have a mother, Diane, who is wonderful. We moved after a personal and financial family issue, and worked as a maid in the most amazing house. My boyfriend, Craven, lived there, but it took a while before he noticed me. I’m glad he did. Still, sometimes I feel like I’m meant to choose between him and my mom, especially now that she’s sick. I suppose I’m most grateful to Craven’s uncles who helped us and gave my mother an easier task as a nanny to their beautiful little girl. The other two in that house are a little stand offish, and the boy doesn’t respect my relationship with Craven, but how bad can they be? They haven’t claimed that I’m a gold digger yet unlike Craven’s father.
